The mechanism of protein synthesis involves process of translation because the language of the four base-pairing letters of nucleic acids is translated into the language of twenty letters of proteins. Translation is a complex process and in fact it necessitates the coordinated interplay of more than a hundred kinds of macromolecules.
Protein synthesis is the process whereby DNA encodes for the production of amino acids and proteins. It is a very complex and precise process and as proteins make up over half of the dry mass of a cell, it is a vital process to the maintenance, growth and development of the cell.
In Protein Synthesis, there are twenty different amino acids and if one is out of place than is will effect the specificity of the protein. In a healthy person, the protein hemoglobin can be found in red blood cells, hemoglobin is helps with the transfer of respiratory gases from the blood to the tissues of the body.
Protein synthesis is essential to cell function. The life cycle of a protein is illustrated in Figure 2.2 starting with DNA transcription and moving to mRNA translation, to protein maturation, to protein function, and finally to protein degradation. As mentioned, plants utilize sunlight as energy for synthesis, which is called photosynthesis.
Proteins are essential for the functioning g of all living cells and therefore must be correctly manufactured inside the cell. Mistakes (mutations) may occur, however, during the process of protein synthesis. Write an essay in which you describe the process that results in the formation of fully functional proteins and explain how gene mutations affect this process.Learn More
