The doctoral program in counseling psychology has a selective admissions policy. No more than 8 master's-level and two bachelor's-level students are accepted into the program each year. The department prefers candidates who have strong backgrounds in psychology and work experience related to counseling psychology.
The PhD in counseling psychology includes training in theoretical bases, an experiential component, a research component, and a variety of training assignments. The program contains a core of psychology courses in the social, biological, cognitive, affective, and individual bases of behavior.
The department’s graduate programs train community agency, mental health, and rehabilitation counselors at the master’s level, offer master’s degree-level studies in, social psychology, clinical mental health and rehabilitation counseling, and prepare counseling psychologists at the doctoral level.
